The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has issued Keurboom Communications Ltd (Keurboom) with a monetary penalty of £400,000 for unlawful marketing practices.
What did Keurboom do?
- They used an automated calling system to make recorded direct marketing calls, mainly concerning road traffic accidents and PPI claims;
- They made repeat calls;
- They called at unsocial hours.
The ICO received over 1,000 complaints and their investigation found that Keurboom had made more than 99 million calls.
Interestingly, this is the highest penalty ever imposed by the ICO for nuisance marketing.
Keurboom has been placed in voluntary liquidation and it’s unlikely that the fine will be paid.
